Update: This beta is now safe to install from beta 2 onwards
The iOS 11 Public Beta finally dropped on Monday night and for users in the UK at least it appears to contain a pretty serious issue that is enough to make you have seconds thoughts about upgrading for the time being…
Upgrade Not Appearing…
After a couple of hours of trying to get the installer to appear I finally got the message I wanted ‘iOS 11 Public beta. Download & Install’. Myself and several other users are reporting issues even getting to the download stage. This appears to be something to do with the old iOS 10 beta profile that users had installed. The way to get the update to appear if you really want to install it is as follows:
I tried removing myself completely from the beta program, rejoined, re-added profiles and that seemed to work

So what you need to do is go to beta.apple.com and follow the instructions to remove yourself from the beta program. Once you’ve done this make sure you remove the profile from your device too. Head back to beta.apple.com and re-register for the beta program, download the beta profile, restart your device and then you should now have the update!
“Cannot Connect to….”
This is all I’m getting displayed. Logged out of App Store in settings and now can’t log back in again pic.twitter.com/dbBKU3eRfU

Before you take the plunge please heed this warning ⚠️ – The App Store, iTunes Store, Podcast Store, Home Sharing, Apple Music & Beats 1 are not available for a high number of users in the UK. It doesn’t however appear to be affecting iPads, only iPhones.
That’s why, not seen any with iPads with issues, only iPhones

Anyone else on iOS 11 public beta in the UK having issues getting app store/music/iTunes Store to connect? #ios11 #appstore #uk

Yes! Having problems here too. Seems to be an SSL problem, but what’s causing it, I don’t know.

I used Wireshark to see what was happening, SSL packets are malformed according to WS. I’ve submitted bug reports too.

The server hello is malformed. Which would also explain why I’m seeing mostly people in the UK with this problem. Looks server side.

Any fixes? Can’t connect to App Store or Apple Music
— joe allen (@joeallen__) June 27, 2017
Yeah, cannot connect to the App Store for the life of me. Removed all profiles to no avail – did you find a fix at all?

As you can see bug reports have been submitted by several users however I have not heard anything back from Apple Developer Relations more than 24 hours after reporting the issue. If there are any updates then I’ll post them on here but for the time being don’t install iOS 11 unless you really want to.
